Brown with sorrel are fields lying fallow. Blue of the brightest are sloping fields covered with Echium, surpassing in splendour anything that can be imagined. Yellow and brightly gleaming are the fields of Chrysanthemum … White as snow are sand-fields of the sweet-smelling Dianthus. Dappled are the waysides with Echium, Cichorium, Anchusa and Malva … from Carl Linnaeus Skånska Resa (Skåne Travels) Stockhom 1751. |
