Linnaeus in the Fields



​Gareth Evans visits the historic botanic garden Linnéträdgården in Uppsala the home of 'the father of botany' Carl Linnaeus (von Linné). From here he departed for some of his self-documented expeditions to countryside of his native Sweden.

Brown with sorrel are fields lying fallow.
Blue of the brightest are sloping fields covered with Echium, surpassing in splendour anything that can be imagined.
Yellow and brightly gleaming are the fields of Chrysanthemum …
White as snow are sand-fields of the sweet-smelling Dianthus.
Dappled are the waysides with Echium, Cichorium, 

          Anchusa and Malva …
